After all, the skiing is certainly better up at Snowshoe Mountain in West Virginia. The nightlife and restaurant options are more varied and interesting in Banner Elk, Boone and Blowing Rock. There are far more golf courses down around Highlands or up near Banner Elk. We are not even convenient to Maggie Valley and Gatlinburg.  We don’t have a nearby lake in the area like Lake Lure near Chimney Rock. Also unlike most other mountain resort locations, there isn’t even any challenge to the drive as it’s all freeway except for the last four miles. Finally, our unique location protected by national forests, a watershed and the Appalachian Trail means you’ll really miss the architectural impact found at many other mountain resorts of the over-built 1970’s style condo construction so visible and unsightly at other locations. So why would you want to buy or build a home here?

Here Is Why We Beat Out All the Mountain Resort Competition Here At Wolf Laurel Resort?

Snowshoe Has More Skiing But the Resort is Very Isolated - Yes, there is more snow and the skiing is often better and certainly more extensive up in Snowshoe as long as the visitors from points south, don’t mind adding another 6 to 7 hours to the road trip. They have more restaurants and bars near the slopes but visitors and homeowners need to be prepared for a 90 minute drive to a real supermarket or small town of any consequence. In the summer, you’ll have the resort area almost to yourself as it is primarily a winter resort. I know, I owned a condo there.

Here, our Wolf Laurel Ski Resort really does have a wide variety of slopes and often great conditions without the extra 7 hours up to the Snowshoe in West Virginia. I personally live here primarily because of the ski resort and their expansion plans for more slopes and lifts beginning this summer in 2006. You can also check out more details on the expansion plans for the ski area by clicking to Scenic Wolf Resort and Breakaway Village which are adjacent to our Wolf Laurel Resort. Review the map at the left for some of the expansion plans at the ski resort for new lifts, slopes and attractions.

There Is Far More Nightlife & Traffic Elsewhere But Isn't This Why Your Are Escaping to the Mountains - Yes, there is also more nightlife and restaurants in the Banner Elk and Blowing Rock area but the drive from Beech and Sugar to Boone and Blowing Rock often is little  longer than the freeway drive from our Wolf Laurel area to Asheville on a good day.  On a snowy day or crowded summer weekend, you can add another 30 minutes or more to the trip at the other resorts. Here, Asheville has more entertainment and restaurant options than the rest of western North Carolina put together. We are only a short freeway, worry free drive away but here in our "family oriented" resort you don't have to worry about your teenagers behaving like the photo at the left.

We Have Excellent Golf Courses - For golfing here we have two private country clubs including Wolf Laurel Country Club and Mountain Air Country Club over in Burnsville but there are many more public courses within driving distance. See our new Golf Asheville website (now under construction) for more on the many golfing opportunities in our resort area.

Don't Move Here Wanting A Crowded Gatlinburg Lifestyle - Yes, Maggie Valley and Gatlinburg have more entertainment for the kids than we do but between the growing summer and amenities program here at Wolf Laurel and the expansion plans at Scenic Wolf Resort and Breakaway Village, your children and grandchildren certainly will never be bored here in our mountain resort. Also, if you want the crowded carnival atmosphere of the other locations, you can drive over for the day and still be back here for a quiet, relaxed dinner and evening.

Yes, our only in resort water sports currently are swimming in our heated pools but nearby are some of the best trout fishing, canoeing and white water rafting opportunities on the entire East Coast.

You Will Save Time & Money Traveling Here Over Other Resort Areas - We promise you that here at Wolf Laurel, you’ll save valuable hours and gas in choosing our convenient freeway location over other competitors. See the map showing locations of NC resorts and remember we are just off of the new I-26 interstate highway.  I believe we have the best golfing, winter sports, water sports, restaurants, nightlife, outdoor activities and mountain style accommodations anywhere in the East, when you add in nearby Ashville.  Click here to learn more about building this interstate highway on the ridges of our high mountains.

The Pristine Natural Beauty of Your Wolf Laurel Home Is Protected - Imagine a wilderness area protected by watersheds, two national forests Pisgah and Cherokee, and the Appalachian Trail all less than 35 minutes from exciting Asheville, the leading mountain city tourist destination in the entire Southern United States. A region now very accessible by the new Interstate I-26 Highway which is the highest interstate east of the Rocky Mountains. A climate deep inside Dixie with cool summers and invigorating winters with snow totals over 60 inches annually in the high elevations. All of this surrounding the 5,516 foot elevation of Big Bald, a true mountain bald where visitors have a 360 degree view on top of the world.

Imagine Having Images of the Scottish Highlands, the Alps & Out West All At Your Doorstep - In our high mountain region, the terrain near here looks like a combination of the Scottish Highlands, the Rocky Mountains and even the lower Alps with our new villages and resorts near the mountain peaks. This is appropriate as America's largest Highland Games are located Northeast of the area at world famous Grandfather Mountain Highland Games .The longest Oktoberfest in the US is a couple of hours Southwest in Helen, Georgia .  Big Bald even brings back memories to me of Dude Ranch vacations out West above the tree line in Montana or Colorado and this is further accented by the 20 miles of horse trails at the Wolf Laurel Resort Stables.

Here You Will Enjoy Summer Outdoor Activities: In the lower elevations during the summer, there are numerous canoe and white water rafting, tubing, swimming and trout fishing opportunities on the French Broad and other nearby rivers in TN and NC.  Two famous private golf courses at Wolf Laurel Country Club and Mountain Air Country Club challenge mountain course players.  Tennis courts, swimming pools and hiking are available at many of the resorts plus other challenging outdoor activities skills with our mountains and rock cliffs.

We Are the Most Convenient Winter Sports Area For Most of the South - Here just a few miles but several thousand feet above Asheville, downhill skiing, boarding and snow tubing are available at Wolf Laurel Ski Resort while cross country skiing and snowshoeing outfitters can give you a more private secluded mountain winter experience.

Enjoy Full-Time Living in Within A Short Drive To Asheville - Most of the resorts in our high mountain region are within commuting distance to Asheville, NC and the Tri-Cities of East Tennessee. Instead of a daily commute fighting traffic, lights, congestion, imagine a quiet interstate highway drive with little traffic and long range views as you travel down from almost 5,000 feet in elevation to our mountain valleys at nearly 2,000 feet. You leave the top of the mountains where air conditioning is unknown and unnecessary as you quickly make the 30 plus minute drive down where temperatures are often 6 to 10 degrees cooler.

A Wide Choice of Second-Home Living Is Available - Wolf Laurel Resort with nearly 5,000 acres has long been the second home living and vacation choice for the region. First developed in the 1960's, they now face healthy competition from their own The Preserve at Wolf Laurel, the highly acclaimed new area under development. The other resorts in the area further expand the range of real estate opportunities ranging from mountain top living, to river front and everything in between depending on your mountain dream. Homes, cabins, condos and townhomes (See Mountainside Townhomes) are available with long distance views, mountain streams, golf course and ski resort access as well as any other combination of mountain terrain and directional views ranging from elevations near 2,200 feet in elevation up to over 5,000 feet. Your preferred view, climate and high mountain activities or relaxation can be obtained here in the Big Bald Highlands area of North Carolina located minutes away from Asheville.

Come by for a visit but get ready to stay for a lifetime.
